We are NOT a Bungalow, although the official postal system calls us Fairview Bungalow. We're a 2 storey house, with a garage beneath the house. This is the view from our deck - available to guests during their stay. You may use the barbecue if you wish (buy your own charcoal) on the deck.
No main road, no traffic noise, although the steam train does run along the bottom of the hill within walking distance - mainly at weekends so you will hear the occasional TOOT TOOT!. This really is a little oasis of tranquility. Up the hill 300 yards and you enter the Forest - and the dogs will willingly accompany you on a walk and show you all the best swimming places! There are deer in the Forest, and also towards Bream we have wild boar - which have yet to injure anyone but you need to be cautious if you venture that way!
Or just have coffee and relax and watch the sheep mosey on by on the back terrace. The terrace at the back of the house is planted with herbs and fragrant flowers, and is great for a late night coffee in the still night air. Accommodation in the Forest of Dean means careful driving, as our local free-roaming sheep wander the roads at will. There is a sizeable flock that wanders the roads around the house, so please keep the gate closed at all times - the dogs are SHEEPDOGS!
We offer one large, airy, sunny double room with exquisite views over the Forest from both windows (to the right is the view from your bedroom window). Pleasant village location, within walking distance of 2 pubs (one cider pub), post office/shop, small fish & chip shop(!) and open Forest. Excellent cycling base, and we can provide secure lockup in our garage for bikes if you wish to cycle the Forest of Dean. We can reserve you a table in a pub a 3 minute drive away for dinner if you wish.
Dogs and children
Family home, 2 dogs (no children), we will consider dog visitors on request on a case-by-case basis. We can also accommodate one child on the sofa in your room if required - surcharge applies. Our dogs are border collies, and extremely friendly. If you are very nervous of dogs, or wear expensive, dark-coloured clothing, we may not be the best place to stay. Julie-Ann is a professional writer and consultant, as well as a trainee homoeopath and stained glass artist! Rud is a musician and music producer. We both work from home so are around all day for assistance, directions etc.
Facilities
Continental breakfast, and full use of the garden, back terrace and deck. No "in-room tea and coffee making facilities", with fiddly sachets and plastic milk - we expect you to share our large kitchen and help yourself whenever you need it.
You have use of your own bathroom - unlike many B&Bs you can have your privacy, as with 4 bathrooms/toilets to choose from, there is no need to share! We have our own en-suite bathroom downstairs, and your bathroom comes with a jacuzzi bath. Feel free to use the jacuzzi by candlelight for a real wind-down, or just take a regular bath and help yourself to the Lush bath products. Large comfy sofa and TV in your room, with an extensive DVD library (over 250 films and TV DVDs) to plunder, (no clear TV reception due to the physical location but if you don't mind a little snowstorm effect channels BBC and ITV and Channel 4 are OK - no Channel 5). Wireless internet through house.
On a budget? We're happy for you to use cutlery, plates, microwave, oven etc if you prefer to cook your own pizzas etc and avoid eating out every day. The kitchen is easily large enough to share...
No sharing with others - one room only is used for guests, so need to make polite conversation over breakfast or wait for the bathroom! No talking in whispers - we sleep downstairs, so you will have the first floor to yourselves... Your room overlooks the village, and is quiet and peaceful. The dogs are NOT allowed upstairs!
